Writing a Family Cookbook

Last holiday season, I had the idea of putting together and writing a family cookbook. It is going to contain all of our favorites that our grandma makes. So, with my grandma’s permission, I raided her recipe box and started cooking, photographing, and sketching out the cookbook. I also sent out a mass text to the cousins for them to request their favorites that they want to be included in the book.

I’m going to keep you all updated on this post on how it’s going!

To put together the cookbook, I decided to use Create My Cookbook website. So far it is really user-friendly. And you don’t have to pay for anything until you are ready to buy the cookbooks. There is also no minimum number of books to purchase. So it’s a great idea for a gift like this, or even a wedding gift, going to college, housewarming gift ideas.

One of the first chapters I decided to work on is “Wayne’s Favorites”. It is a representation of my grandpa’s favorite things that his wife of 54 years always made. I think it’s going to be one of my favorite chapters. It is also going to contain the fun fact that my grandpa spent one Christmas break when I was 9 teaching me blackjack, and the next teaching me poker (using M&Ms for chips), along with his favorite cocktails: a 7&7 and a Manhattan.

They is also going to be funny parts of the cookbook. For example, my grandma would make a full American/farmer’s breakfast every day. Except Sunday. Sundays were cereal and pop tart (only frosted strawberry ones) breakfast. So that is definitely going into the book.

Other chapters in the family cookbook are going to include dinners/lunches she would make when the guys would be in from the field. Always served at noon. Suppers, side dishes, desserts, and the fun snacks we would have during sleepovers.

I think this is going to end up being a cute project and I’m excited to work on it and share it with all of you!
